Pregnant and Glowing: Is Skin Needling Safe Right Now?

Hi mum-to-be, this one's for you.

You've just looked at that pregnancy test and seen one of the most beautiful answers of your life: you're pregnant! Amazing news, but then reality sets in. You cancel the Botox appointment, and the fear of "those lines" suddenly feels very real. You were expecting the famous pregnancy glow, but instead you're staring at new pimples or patches of pigmentation, and panic sets in. What now? You can't use your beloved retinol anymore, and you've had to put away the salicylic acid that used to save your skin every time a breakout decided to show up right before an event.

I know all of this, not because I have kids myself, but because in over 10 years in this industry, I've treated thousands of pregnant women, each with different skin concerns and different expectations.

So here's the good news: skin needling is your go-to.

Why skin needling is different

Unlike treatments such as laser, which are off-limits during pregnancy because they send heat or light wavelengths into your body that could affect your baby, skin needling doesn't carry that risk.

For anyone who isn't familiar with it: skin needling is one of the most holistic ways to treat your skin, because it works with your body rather than against it. Using sterile micro-needles, we create controlled, tiny micro-injuries in the skin. These act as a signal for your body to kick-start its own natural healing process and reduce inflammation. I know that might sound a little full-on, but it's actually one of the safest procedures in the beauty industry.

I've treated thousands of pregnant women with skin needling, and not one has had an issue with it. Every single one went on to have a beautiful, healthy baby.

What changes during pregnancy

Of course, the treatment is fully personalised for this stage of life. Lidocaine (numbing cream) isn't used, chemical peels are off the table, and no other active or potentially risky products are infused into the skin. The glide gel we use for the procedure is completely safe. It's a sterile, water-based gel that stays at the surface level and doesn't enter your bloodstream.

The real benefits

Skin needling is excellent for calming the inflammation behind hormonal acne. It also helps reduce, or even prevent, the appearance of pigmentation like melasma, which is incredibly common during pregnancy.

It's not a miracle treatment, and I'll never pretend it is. But it is genuinely one of the best ways to keep your skin strong, clear, and healthy during a time when your usual active skincare routine simply can't help you.

Pregnancy changes a lot, but feeling confident in your skin doesn't have to be one of the things you give up.

If you've just found out you're pregnant, you're struggling with your skin during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or you simply want to support your collagen production during this special time, and you're in Sydney looking for a safe, effective treatment, book a consultation with me at ReSKN Studio
